Frequently Asked Questions
What do I wear?
It's best to wear comfortable everyday clothing that allows you to move easily. You are not asked to remove your clothing.
Is it like Yoga or Pilates?
No, the Alexander Technique is unique and not a form of exercise. As it teaches you how to move more easily and smoothly you'll probably find it a great help with your yoga or Pilates work, or any other form of exercise, sport or activity you choose. (Many music colleges and acting schools have the AT on their syllabus to teach students how to perform with the minimum of stress and tension so that their talent can shine through. Many professional sports people have lessons for similar reasons to enhance performance and minimise the risk of injury.)
How many lessons would I need?
Everyone is different so it is difficult to say in advance but expect a minimum of 6 - 10. Most people notice a difference after just one but as it's a skill, you'll need some regular lessons so you get a sense of what you are aiming at and how you can work on yourself.
Who comes for lessons?
I've taught builders, accountants, teachers, actors, chefs, fitness instructors, lawyers, expectant mothers, retired people, academics, writers and many more ... people from all walks of life, all ages and levels of fitness.
